May 2016 | Premiere 'The Lonely Mind'
Jan-Willem van Herpen's fragmentary portrait of the English writer Virginia Woolf (1882-1941) will be premiered on June 17, 2016 during the 26th Annual International Conference on Virginia Woolf at Leeds Trinity University, Leeds (UK).
The Lonely Mind is a collection of 13 settings of small fragments from Woolf's diary. The text settings can be considered musical vignettes: snapshots in words and music which focus on one moment or mood, and show glimpses of both dark and lighter aspects of the writer's identity.
The first performance will be given by Annelies Van Hijfte (soprano) and Lana Bode (piano) during a concert in a series that showcases music that inspired Virginia Woolf’s writing and that directly responds to her work.
